about

My first release of 2024 has several influences.

The first one was a "digital tape theory" type of experiment the first couple days of the year. I essentially tried to mimic only having a minimal set of synth and analog(ue) tape tools like I did when I started making music many years ago. The tracks ended up with a fair number of effects, but I essentially used the same ones. This is my attempt to try to make digital sound analog(ue).

The second one is the amazing 1924 novel "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. This novel was the inspiration for another dystopian classic - 1984. Not only is it a prescient tale for our increasingly authoritarian times, it also has some great chapter names which I used for the album and track titles.

The final influence is the very serious health issues that have emerged for my mother in the last 10 days. My time for working on music has been very limited but I felt driven to complete this release as a form of therapy. Nothing calms me like working on music.

So, there you have it. I hope this music provides you with some peace in our troubled world. Once again, field recordings were graciously provided by Paul Mallatratt. As always, thanks for listening and your support.
