postthispostthat To capture the atmosphere of our family trip to Florida the music would have been more akin to Psycho’s shower scene. Instead here we experience that moment when we can reconcile all of life’s struggles and be thankful to those dear to us. Favorite track: Reunion 1.2.

paulmallatratt This is a very special album. Mr York always delivers inspirational and beautiful music but I think he’s reached a new high. Two dreamy ambient compositions interwoven with intimate recordings from a family reunion. You can hear the joy and love flow freely through the music. A very personal experience to which we are privileged to be invited.

about

This latest MFLAS is based around a lengthy field recording from a recent family reunion in the NC mountains. I'll be honest - summer is not my favorite season (by a long shot). However, there are a few things I do like about it: longer days, fireflies, cicadas, thunderstorms and the annual family reunion the last weekend of June.

This reunion was particularly special as we weren't sure if my 92 year-old Mom would be able to go. Go she did and she did great. So, I set my portable recorder on an old rocking chair by a small structure on the beautiful 3 acre lot of the family members who graciously host this event every year. A few folks were aware I was recording but most were not.

I used a rather unpredictable generative ambient patch for this MFLAS. I literally opened it up and hit record just like I was tracking a live performance. The beauty of this type of patch is it never seems to exactly repeat itself. So, the same patch was used for both tracks but other than being in the same key, the results are somewhat different. As usual, I layered modified versions of the original track so that creates differences as well.

I still have an hour and half left of the field recording recording. So, there may be some Reunion 2 tracks in the near future. This is music for summer. July seems to be the quintessential summer month - at least here in the U.S.

Enjoy, take care of yourselves and as always, thanks for listening and your support.
